Get to work

Somehow my shop ended up really empty. How did that happen?? I spent today packing up lots of yarn to ship and doing some panicky spinning because I don't have much yarn to list! I spun a patchwork yarn on Saturday that I'll be listing later on tonight:

melee on the bobbin

melee handspun

And today I've gotten a skein of bamboo done so far - I'm hoping to finish a novelty yarn and maybe another skein of bamboo tonight. And then I really need to get going the rest of the week - especially since I'll be taking at least one day off, maybe two!

I always love your use of colors!

Hey an almost empty shop is a good thing! I'm jealous lol although mine is almost empty to start with.

I love the color combo in that skein, especially the icy pastel green combined with the strong red. Swoon!

Hello, what a pretty burst of color. My name is Jamie and I'm teaching myself to spin and was wondering if you could answer a question for me. When you spin a yarn like this, are two yarns spun together in the same direction, or are they plied in opposite directions...and are both yarns set before spinning them together? Thank you!! I'll be back.

Jamie - Thanks! This is a two-ply yarn, and each of the single plies are spun (separately) in the same direction and then plied together in the opposite direction. Don't set the twist before plying, because you need extra twist in the singles in order for them to ply together well.

Here is a link to a site with videos & instructions for spinning & plying, both on a wheel and a spindle:
